The Role of Social Media in The Formation of National Identity in The Post Truth Era

Abstract

As time goes by, the use of digitalization is growing rapidly, especially in the use


of social media used by both parents, adults, teenagers, and even children, because social


media is a reference for everyone in everything. One of them is social media as a source of


information or news from abroad and within the country, the majority of people who hear


all the news circulating on social media are every easy to believe in it, even though the


news is not yet known to be true or commonly referred to as post truth, resulting in a


national identity crisis. The purpose of this research is to find out how people respond to


the use of social media on national identity in this post truth era. The method used in this


research is the literature method. This method is used to collect data from several accurate


sources such as books, journals, articles, theses, and so on. This journal discusses the role


of social media in post truth in shaping national identity, because basically a strong and


united nation is able to create a sense of shared identity and togetherness in facing various


challenges faced.
